The Girl on the Train Book Review & Story

The Girl on The Train is the only book I have read of Paula Hawkins, and it has become one of my favourites. The author has set the plot very well and sketched the characters creatively.

This is a psychological thriller that held my nerves, mostly because I could relate to most of the lines in the book. There are three main female characters—Rachel, Anna, and Megan, who have narrated the story in their words.

In the Girl on The Train story, Rachel Watson has played the role of the main character who takes the commuter train to London daily for her job. Her husband had left her because of her inability to conceive a baby. She feels broken and starts drinking.

At some point I must have felt lonely, or happy, or something, because I wanted to talk to someone.”

– The Girl on The Train, Paula Hawkins

She continues to travel by train every day even after leaving her job and returns in the evening without doing anything. On the way to work, the train takes a break at a station near the house of her ex-husband where he now lives with his wife Anna and a daughter.

From the window of the train, she always sees a couple at the house nearby to the station who looks happy and in love. She doesn’t know them but chooses to name them Jess and Jason. She likes watching their chemistry and the seemingly happy and perfect life.

“There’s something comforting about the sight of strangers safe at home.”

However, one morning, Rachel sees something at the same house which completely shatters the assumptions she had about so-called Jess and Jason. Jess is found romancing someone else.

The Girl on the Train novel by Paula Hawkins is just full of surprises, mysteries, and secrets. All the characters have their own secrets and prove that nothing is as real as they seem on the surface. Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. Nobody actually knows a person just by seeing him every day.

Now that Rachel feels like a part of the life of Jess and Jason, she can’t keep herself from finding out the truth.

I recommend this book to everyone, especially if you are an INTROVERT.

While writing the Girl on The Train review, I found that it is the fastest-selling adult hardcover fiction debut ever. And the book truly deserves it.
